Venturing back into the makeup biz has pushed me into personal growth and getting my confidence back post partum. Now that I have a desire to put a bit more effort in my appearance I have begun to take a leap in to more bold eye looks and stray away from my tried and true neutrals.
Tips for beginners when going for that Smokey Eye:
1. Start with your eyes before you apply foundation and concealer. This way if you get any fall out from your dark eye shadow it won’t ruin your base.
2. Have a good set of quality tools. Professional grade brushes and products are key when chasing that polished look.
3. Choose a lighter lip colour. Have one focal point on your face
4. Blend, clean and practice.
Here is a quick eye I did while E was down for her last nap.
Wow!! E turned 7 months old yesterday. I can’t believe it. I have come SO far as a mom in these last 7 months and E has come SO far as a baby. Our bond just keeps getting stronger.
E literally changes by the hour. Today she started rolling back-to-tummy in both directions. She has been really working at it for the last week or two, but all of the sudden she mastered it. This whole parenthood situation just levelled up; time for babyproofing! Tonight after I put her to bed, she managed to get herself stuck on her stomach, sideways in her crib with her arm stuck in her sleeper.
Yup. After that heart pounding discovery, we initiated an emergent crib lowering mission with success and back to bed for her. Luckily she hadn’t hurt herself.
Our park visit was better received this time around. E was smiling on the swing and enjoyed help from Mom moving about the playground to take in on all the there was to see. She got a real kick out of watching the bigger kids playing, kicking her legs and smiling.
D took a pic of us together on the swing with his phone:
We took E to the park yesterday and she went on the swing for the first time. We really weren’t sure if she was quite old enough yet but once she was in the bucket seat she was pretty content. She was also pretty ambivalent about the whole ordeal. I’m not sure but I’m thinking it has something to do with the fact we were literally minted from nap time. It’s such an exciting age and things are starting to get really fun. She is sleeping 6-8 hours straight (out of her 12hr nighttime period)on the regular, with an average of one or two feeds in the 12 hr period. Sometimes her long stretch happens at the beginning of the night overlapping my sleep. But I am just so grated we have gotten this far with sleep.
I have been jumping out of my comfort zone ever since I started working from home. I have always been a lipgloss kinda gal and once in awhile I would throw in a a neutral shade of lipstick. Yesterday I wore a gorgeous colour of liquid lipstick, the colour was just stunning. My final thoughts are, that I love it! But if you are a busy mom like me, my number one tip would be to blot it on a tissue to take off any excess colour. Otherwise you are putting yourself at risk for a little smudge action when your baby swipes at your face! – I think in the future, while she is such a little monkey, I’ll have to wear a lip stain or waterproof liner.
What did you get up to this weekend? Thanks for visiting ❤
E and I braved the wind and headed out for a run this morning. I’m literally a month behind on our training schedule and our race is in less than 8 weeks. But, it’s ok, its been a rough start to 2017 in the way of sickness. Has anybody else had the longest lasting cold ever this year?
We have no time goals for this race and are planning to take walk breaks 👍. This will be our first family race (10k) and we will be pushing E in the BOB.
Running with a running stroller is a whole new ball game. My previous runs post partum have been on the treadmill and she has now reached the age where I can start running with her in the stroller. Let me just say my shoulders were on fire. I loved it. It adds a whole new workout to running. She also had a blast, just chillin’ all bundled and cozy.
I have my sights set on a solo race come late spring, I’ll update those details on another post.
I read a poem while in the beginning days of motherhood called “Babies Don’t Keep”-at that time I couldn’t see past the foggy glasses of sleep deprivation. The days and nights were long in a sense of not really knowing which day it was. As the weeks and months have gone by, I have realized that babies really don’t keep. I understand it.
I have embraced the sleep deprivation, the late nights and early mornings, and taken them as an opportunity to just soak up more of her during her night feedings and midnight diaper changes. Everyday a new part of her is changing and she is getting smarter by the minute.
Sometimes I feel so much love it brings me to tears. We are so fortunate to given this gift ❤
Went completely out of my element and decided to try a new makeup company! I have always been a Department Store, Spa and Sephora “brands” kind of girl, but honestly super happy that I took a chance!
Mineral Touch Foundation in shade Scarlet
Mineral Pressed Blush in Sweet

In a previous post I discussed switching up my bedroom linens and giving my master bedroom a mini facelift.
Well the postman has since come and gone, the bedding has been washed and fitted on my bed with care. -but not without a bit of a bump. Anytime you purshase something online it comes with a bit of a risk, that is why I always make sure where I am purchasing from offers an easy and reliable refund policy.
Anthropologie stood behind their product and gave me a full refund when my new throw had arrived looking a little, well, previously returned. It also arrived with a little ladybug friend stuck in the knit- lol! At first I felt a little bit frustrated but with such excellent customer service, I will definitely be shopping again there soon!
One of my goals this year was to meditate at least once a week working back up to a daily morning meditation. It’s one of those things that are easy to be missed but are so so worth it, even just for 5 minutes. It can set the positive tone for your whole day.
How do you zen? Do you have a favourite podcast channel for your meditations?
There is something incredibly freeing when you choose not to care about what people will think. It’s like letting go of a massive weight that holds you back.
It’s funny how becoming a parent has helped me to overcome that barrier and truly do what makes me happy, and not let the barriers I have self manifested stop me. Why? Because I want to be a role model for my daughter-
I am following any advice I would give her, or any friend of mine. When we show up for ourselves we can show up for others. Embracing our vulnerability and putting ourselves out there; it’s how we grow.
Recently I decided to do a refresh on our bedroom. We finished our upstairs Reno about a year and a half ago and our whole decor has changed- we chose light Grey themes, with beautiful white chunky trim. In short, our bedroom set is a dark espresso brown, so I’m hunting for a new look featuring a lighter, cleaner look.
In the meantime, I have done some online shopping, bought a new duvet set from IKEA and splurged on a beautiful throw from Anthropolgie:
I am currently hunting for a bedroom furniture set, or just may buy the pieces separately on Wayfair ..
We are also looking to sell our house in the next couple of years… so we might be doing the whole Reno thing again!
What are your thoughts about buying furniture online? Any tips?
